DocPlainly Terms of Use
Last updated: June 11, 2026
Overview
DocPlainly provides plain-language explanations of documents that you choose to upload. These Terms of Use govern your access to and use of DocPlainly. By creating an account, uploading a document, asking a follow-up question, or otherwise using the service, you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy.
User authorization
By submitting a document, you represent that you have the right to provide that document for analysis and that you authorize DocPlainly to process its contents for the purpose of generating a plain-language explanation for your personal use.
No emergency or professional substitute
DocPlainly is an informational tool only. It does not provide legal advice, financial advice, professional advice, or emergency services. You should consult a qualified professional before acting on important legal, financial, employment, housing, account, or other significant matters.
AI limitations
DocPlainly uses AI to explain visible document wording. AI-generated output may be incomplete, outdated, or incorrect. You are responsible for reviewing the original document and deciding whether the explanation is appropriate for your situation.
OpenAI processing
Document files, extracted text, prompts, and follow-up questions may be sent to OpenAI to generate explanations. OpenAI's applicable terms, policies, technical limitations, and service availability also apply to that processing. Do not upload content unless you have the right to submit it for AI processing.
Sensitive documents
You acknowledge that documents submitted through the service may contain sensitive personal information. By using the service, you consent to processing of that information as described in the Privacy Policy.
Age and location
You must be 18 or older to use this service. The service is intended for use in the United States only.
Accounts and security
You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for activity that occurs under your account. You must provide accurate account information and promptly update it if it changes. If you believe your account has been compromised, contact us promptly.
Saved explanations and deletion
Uploading a document creates an explanation for that request. The original uploaded file is processed to generate the explanation and is not intended to be retained after processing is complete. Saving an explanation is optional and must be chosen by you.
Depending on your account and plan, saved explanation options may include local browser history, encrypted cloud history with a customer-held recovery key, and encrypted cloud history with DocPlainly-secured key storage. Local browser history stays on the device and browser where it was saved. Cloud history stores encrypted explanation data so it can be accessed from signed-in devices after the appropriate key option is set up. The original uploaded file is not stored in saved history or cloud history.
You may delete saved explanations, reset cloud history, and request account or data deletion using controls provided in the service. If you choose customer-held recovery-key cloud history and lose the key, DocPlainly cannot recover that cloud history.
Acceptable use
You must not upload unlawful, abusive, or malicious content. You must not use the service to violate the rights of others, attempt to reverse engineer or disrupt the service, bypass usage limits, scrape or overload the service, introduce malware, or submit content that you do not have the right to process. We may suspend or restrict access if we believe use of the service violates these Terms, creates security risk, or could harm DocPlainly, users, or third parties.
Service changes, limits, and availability
We may update the service, pricing, limits, models, features, or availability over time. Some features may be offered as beta, experimental, or limited-release features and may change or be discontinued. We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability or error-free operation.
Payments and subscriptions
If paid plans are available, billing, renewal, cancellation, and refund details will be presented at checkout or in account management. You are responsible for reviewing the plan, price, limits, and renewal terms before purchasing. Unless otherwise stated, changes to paid access take effect according to the billing provider's checkout or account-management flow.
Feedback
If you send us comments, ideas, or suggestions about DocPlainly, you allow us to use them to improve the service without obligation to compensate you.
Intellectual property
DocPlainly, including its software, design, branding, and service content, is owned by DocPlainly or its licensors. These Terms do not transfer ownership of DocPlainly intellectual property to you. You retain any rights you have in documents and content you submit, subject to the processing permissions described in these Terms and the Privacy Policy.
Disclaimer of warranties
The service is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. To the fullest extent permitted by law, DocPlainly disclaims all warranties, whether express, implied, or statutory, including warranties of accuracy, reliability, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, DocPlainly will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, or loss of goodwill arising from or related to your use of the service. DocPlainly's total liability for any claim will be limited to the greater of the amount you paid for the service in the three months before the event giving rise to the claim or $100.
Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. When changes are material, we will take reasonable steps to notify users, such as updating the effective date, showing an in-app notice, or requiring renewed consent. Your continued use of the service after updated Terms become effective means you accept the updated Terms.
No waiver
If we do not enforce a provision of these Terms, that does not mean we waive the right to enforce that provision or any other provision later.
Severability
If any part of these Terms is found to be invalid, illegal, or unenforceable, that part will be interpreted or limited to the minimum extent necessary so that it becomes valid and enforceable. If that is not possible, that part will be severed from these Terms. The remaining parts of these Terms will remain in full force and effect.
Survival
Any provisions that by their nature should survive termination or account closure will survive, including provisions related to user authorization, privacy, payment obligations, disclaimers, limitation of liability, intellectual property, severability, and any rights or obligations that accrued before termination.
