Plain-language explanations, with clear limits.

DocPlainly explains visible document wording. It is designed to make dense language easier to read and compare with the original document.

For quick definitions while reading, use the plain-English glossary.

Using the app

What kinds of documents can I use this for?

Any everyday document with complex language, dense wording, or terms that are difficult to understand. If you have ever read something and thought "what does this actually mean?" — this app is for that. Upload it and get a clear explanation of what is happening, what is changing, or what details deserve a closer look.

How does the explanation work?

Upload a clear JPEG or PNG image, or a PDF with 10 pages or fewer. The selected file is sent to OpenAI so the AI can read the visible text and return a clear breakdown of what the document says: key points, important details, dates, amounts, and context. Once the explanation is ready, you can ask follow-up questions about specific sections.

How accurate are the explanations?

The AI does its best to explain what is written in the document, but AI can make mistakes or miss context. Clear images and readable PDFs work best. Check important dates, amounts, names, and actions against the original document before relying on an explanation.

What file types and limits are supported?

You can upload JPEG and PNG images up to 7 MB, or PDFs up to 10 MB and 10 pages. A PDF counts as one upload toward the monthly upload limit while these page and size limits are in place.

What languages are supported?

The app currently works best with English-language documents. Support for additional languages is on the roadmap — including the ability to upload a document in one language and receive an explanation in another, so language is never a barrier to understanding what you are reading.

What are the monthly limits?

The free plan includes 5 document uploads and 20 follow-up questions per month. Paid plans increase monthly uploads and follow-up questions. Limits reset at the start of each usage period.

Privacy & your data

Do you store my uploaded documents?

Uploaded images and PDFs are processed to generate the explanation. The original uploaded file is not saved in local history or cloud history, and is not intended to be retained after processing completes.

Where are my saved explanations stored?

Saving is optional. Free accounts can save up to 3 explanations in local browser history on the device they used. Paid subscribers can keep more saved explanations and add encrypted cloud history with their own recovery key or DocPlainly-managed access. Local history stays in that browser on that device. If you keep your own recovery key, DocPlainly cannot recover cloud history if the key is lost. DocPlainly-managed access is easier across signed-in devices, but it is not customer-only key custody.

Can I delete my saved explanations and account data?

Yes. Delete individual explanations from the result screen, or clear saved history from your profile settings. Encrypted cloud history can also be set to auto-delete after 1 year. Deleting your account removes account data DocPlainly keeps to operate the account. For a formal data deletion request, use the Contact page.

Who can see my explanation results?

Only you. Explanations are generated for your personal use and are not shared with other users, advertisers, or third parties. We do not sell or monetize your document content.

Do you train AI models on my documents?

DocPlainly does not use uploaded documents, saved explanations, cloud history, or follow-up questions to train DocPlainly-owned AI models. Document content is sent to OpenAI for processing, and OpenAI terms, policies, availability, and technical limitations also apply to that processing.

What should I avoid uploading?

Do not upload documents you do not have permission to use. Avoid unnecessary sensitive details by cropping to the section you want explained before uploading.

Plans & billing

What does the free plan include?

The free plan includes 5 document uploads per month, 20 follow-up questions per month, copying explanation text, and up to 3 saved explanations in local history on one device. Paid plans add higher limits, more saved history, PDF/email export, and optional encrypted cloud history. Cloud history, when enabled, stores encrypted saved explanation data and never the original uploaded file.

How do I upgrade or change my plan?

Use the Pricing page to choose a plan. Paid checkout and billing management should happen through Stripe-hosted checkout or the Stripe customer portal when available for your account.

Is there a free trial?

The free plan lets you try the core explanation flow before choosing a paid plan.

What is the cancellation policy?

Paid subscriptions should be cancellable through the billing portal when billing is active for your account. Cancellation affects future renewals; used plan periods may not be refundable unless required by law or stated otherwise.

How do I cancel?

Go to your account or billing controls when available. If you need help finding the right billing path, use the Contact page.

What payment methods do you accept?

Payment details are handled by Stripe-hosted checkout or the Stripe customer portal, not stored in DocPlainly frontend code.

Getting help
